The increasing personalization of viewing habits and digital consumer behavior also influences the experience of events in “real” space – in live entertainment. Today, audiences expect customized content that picks them up in their living environments and addresses them in familiar contexts. Context entertainment therefore pursues the goal of creating experiences that are closely tied to the specific experiential worlds of the audience, actively integrating them and accompanying a passive cinema attitude into an attentive and participatory one.
For an effective implementation, specific conditions such as targeted storytelling techniques and an immersive staging are crucial to create a lasting bond and be remembered in times of on-demand media.
This lecture by the artistic director of Scharlatan - Theater für Veränderung shows what is needed for context entertainment. With vivid examples, he illustrates which conditions must be created and which effects can be achieved.
