BAT presents latest results of the scientific assessment of its smokeless tobacco and nicotine products – heated and vapour products and oral nicotine pouches. Drawing on work by the US Institute of Medicine, BAT developed a scientific assessment framework that guides its approach to researching the effects of its new alternative tobacco and nicotine products, compared to cigarettes. This framework incorporated a weight of evidence approach that integrates various disciplines – preclinical, clinical and population studies to assess the risk reduction potential of smokeless tobacco and nicotine products. Science is the driving force behind BAT’s transformation to become a predominantly smokeless business by 2035.
