Dr. Stefanie Scheffler is a chemist who earned her doctoral degree from Leibniz University Hannover in 2009. She has extensive expertise in the toxicological evaluation of e-cigarette vapors. At Cultex Laboratories GmbH (2014–2015), she conducted research on lung cell exposure to e-cigarette vapor. Since 2017, she has been with Fraunhofer ITEM’s Chemical Safety and Toxicology department, focusing on exposure and risk assessment of chemicals from diverse applications including biocides, cosmetics, and consumer products. Since July 2021, Dr. Scheffler has led the internal research project “EVape,” where an interdisciplinary team develops a standardized vaporizer to generate e-liquid emissions under controlled conditions. She has been a member of the DIN working group “E-cigarettes and liquids for e-cigarettes” since 2019. She has delivered four oral presentations on the EVape project at international conferences and published results from the project in a peer-reviewed journal. Furthermore, the EVape project is part of an internal technology transfer program.
